One might think that the skills of a project manager are easy to develop through experience. However, this is not the case: acting as a project manager requires diversified and clearly assumed skills.
You will first have activities to do as a team or individually, group feedback and discussions and, finally, you will apply your learning in your "personal" project.
The training is spread over several weeks so that you can rework the data and advance your thinking between sessions, in the reality of your workplace.
MODULE 1 - Planning Project Content
Module Learning Objective: Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to plan project content according to best practices.
Module Summary: This module addresses the Content knowledge area. Participants will learn about the three main steps in this area: gathering needs and expectations, defining content and creating the WBS. As this is a workshop, participants will work on a case from their company. To get off to a good start, they should bring the project charter and stakeholder register.
Learning Unit 1 - Gathering needs and expectations
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to produce the stakeholder needs and expectations tracking matrix.
Main knowledge involved:
o Project Charter
o Stakeholder Registry
o List of needs and expectations
o Needs and expectations tracking matrix
o Data collection technique
LU 2 - Defining the content
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to produce the project specifications.
Main knowledge involved:
o Identification and description of the end product
o List of major components (first level of the WBS)
o Specification (description, acceptance criteria, major components, exclusions, constraints, technical assumptions)
LU 3 - Create the WBS
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to create the WBS for a project.
Main knowledge involved :
o WBS
o WBS dictionary
o Deliverable breakdown technique
MODULE 2 - Project Schedule Planning
Module Learning Objective: By the end of this module, participants will be able to create a project schedule, using best practices, to meet the deadlines set by the organization.
Module Summary: This module will allow you to plan the project schedule. To do so, you will need the deliverables from the previous module, namely the WBS, the WBS dictionary and the project charter.
Learning Unit (LU) 1 - Break down the project
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to break down the project into activities or milestones, depending on the type of project.
Main knowledge involved :
o Type of project (deterministic or probabilistic)
o Decomposition by activities (deterministic project)
o Breakdown by milestones (probabilistic project)
LU 2 - Sequencing a project
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to sequence their project.
Main knowledge involved
o Logical sequencing according to the method
o ADM
o PDM
o PERT
LU 3 - Estimate Effort
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to estimate the effort required in a deterministic or probabilistic context.
Main knowledge involved
o Effort
o Effort vs. duration
o Business BD and lessons learned
o Risk management
o RBS (Resource Breakdown Structure)
o Delivery methods (manual or automated)
LU 4 - Determining durations
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to estimate duration in a deterministic or probabilistic context.
Main knowledge involved
o Organizational structure
o Duration per activity (deterministic)
o Duration between milestones (probabilistic)
MODULE 3 - Project Risk Planning
Module Learning Objective: By the end of this module, participants will be able to plan project risks using best practices.
Module Summary: Now that you have planned your project in the Content and Schedule domains, you will need to plan the risks. There are four major steps involved: risk inventory, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, and risk response.
Learning Unit (LU) 1 - Conduct a Project Risk Inventory
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to list project risks for each knowledge area.
Main knowledge involved :
o Risk research
o Risk categories
o Search techniques
o Risk register (evolving)
LU 2 - Performing the Qualitative Analysis
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to perform the qualitative analysis of each identified risk.
Main knowledge involved :
o Probability analysis
o Impact analysis
o Probability and impact matrix
o Importance of human factors
o Risk prioritization
o Risk register (in progress)
LU 3 - Performing Quantitative Analysis
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to perform the quantitative analysis of each project risk.
Main knowledge involved:
o Evaluation techniques
o Impact on content
o Impact on schedule
o Impact on budget (gross and net value)
o Contingency (budget and schedule)
o Risk register (evolving)
LU 4 - Qualify Risk Responses
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to determine the appropriate response to each risk.
Main knowledge involved :
o Acceptance of the level of risk
o Risks with negative effects
o Risks with positive effects
o Succession plans
o Risk register (evolving)
o Risk carriers
MODULE 4 - Project Cost Planning
Module Learning Objective: By the end of this module, participants will be able to plan project costs, using best practices, to meet the organization's budget.
Module Summary: The fourth area of planning will involve planning project costs. You will first estimate the costs of the project and then break them down. Finally, you will produce a cumulative budget and cash flow for your project.
Learning Unit (LU) 1 - Estimating Costs
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to estimate all project costs, including contingency.
Main knowledge involved:
o Effort required
o Project costs (material, equipment, labor)
o Types of estimates (4 types)
o Additional tools
LU 2 - Breakdown costs
At the end of this LU, participants will be able to explain the importance of cost breakdown to the project and to the organization.
Main knowledge involved:
o Cost and schedule relationship
o Cash flow
o Project costs (material, equipment, labor).
