The selection interview: equipping managers to make better decisions

Ask the right questions, assess accurately, recruit sustainably

Recruiting is not a technical act, but a human one. And yet, how many managers find themselves at a loss when it comes to conducting interviews, with doubts, unconscious biases or hazardous choices multiplying? The dialogue between recruiters and managers is sometimes confusing, and candidates miss out, or miss out wrongly. This training course has been designed to put managers at the heart of the selection process, by giving them concrete tools to
• Move from “feeling” to a rigorous assessment of skills and behaviors on the job (clarifying criteria, limiting bias...)
• Conduct interviews that reveal candidates' true potential
• Collaborate effectively with HR to make informed decisions (fair, concerted and aligned with team needs). A short, targeted and immediately applicable training course, to turn the interview into a strategic HR decision-making and collaboration tool.

Objectives

Enable managers and recruiters to adopt a professional, structured and strategic posture when conducting selection interviews, by strengthening their ability to objectively assess candidates, collaborate effectively and integrate the principles of diversity and inclusion into their practices.

2 - Interview techniques: conducting interviews that reveal candidates' true potential

A successful interview is based on the ability to structure a revealing exchange. This module provides the keys to preparing and conducting an interview that is both rigorous and humane, capable of assessing both technical and relational skills, while reducing unconscious bias.

    • Prepare the interview to align job expectations with the profile sought
    • Structure the interview process to establish a clear, coherent and fluid framework for exchange.
    • Asking relevant questions to bring out knowledge, know-how and interpersonal skills in real-life situations.
    • Identify and limit evaluation biases to reinforce the objectivity and fairness of the selection process.

3 - Collaboration between managers and recruiters: co-constructing recruitment decisions

Successful recruitment? It's played out upstream of the posting, from the very first discussions between manager and recruiter, and is validated long after the interview. There's no room for improvisation or misunderstandings: shared criteria, clear intentions, a structured approach, honest feedback and two-way decision-making make all the difference. When this collaboration works, it's no longer a “process”, but a strategic lever for stronger teams and retained talent.

    • Establish clear, measurable and useful criteria at every stage of the selection process.
    • Master best practices for providing constructive feedback at all times
    • Optimize the decision-making process through concerted discussions to avoid hasty and subjective decisions
