Power Platform PL-200: Design and Deliver Business Solutions

Comprehensive PL-200 Certification Preparation: Dataverse, Power Apps, and Power Automate

PL-200 is a four-day practical training course that prepares functional consultants, business analysts, and digital transformation leads to design, configure, and deliver comprehensive solutions on the Microsoft Power Platform.
The training follows a continuous mini-project throughout the four days: you start from a business need, model data in Dataverse, build a model-driven app and a canvas app, automate key processes with Power Automate, and finally package and document the solution for production deployment.
Beyond the tools, the training integrates the functional consultant's methodology:
• requirements gathering,
• drafting specifications,
• user stories,
• acceptance criteria, and deployment documentation.
This is what distinguishes PL-200 from a purely technical course.
It prepares you for the PL-200 certification exam: Microsoft Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate. A timed mock exam, a guided review, and an individualized revision plan conclude the program. It is the natural follow-up to PL-900 for those looking to move from discovery to solution delivery.

Is it for you ?

PL-200 is aimed at professionals who design and deliver Power Platform solutions in a functional role, whether they come from business, consulting, or technology project management backgrounds.
It is particularly suitable for:
• Functional consultants and business analysts who support organizations in implementing Power Platform or Dynamics 365 solutions.
• Process automation and continual improvement leads who wish to structure their practice using Microsoft tools.
• Members of supervised "citizen developer" teams who want to move beyond creating simple flows or apps.
• Project managers and team members involved in Power Platform or Dynamics 365 mandates from a functional perspective.
• Professionals who have completed PL-900 and wish to transition from discovery to delivering complete solutions.
• Anyone preparing for the PL-200 certification exam: Microsoft Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate.

Prerequisites

Strong understanding of business processes and experience in requirements gathering or functional analysis.
No development skills required; familiarity with logic (Excel formulas, conditional statements) is an asset.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) is useful for understanding connectors.
PL-900 recommended as an entry point, or equivalent knowledge of Power Platform components.

What You'll Walk Away With

  • Model a business solution in Dataverse: tables, relationships, business rules, data security, and record quality.
  • Build functional applications with Power Apps: model-driven apps for structured processes, and canvas apps for custom interfaces.
  • Automate business processes with Power Automate: cloud flows, conditions, error handling, approvals, and notifications.
  • Manage the Power Platform solution lifecycle: Development, Test, and Production environments, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies, packaging, versioning, and deployment documentation.
  • Leave with a complete, documented solution built through a continuous mini-project, and validate your progress toward the PL-200 certification through the mock exam and revision plan.

Training content

PL-200 is a four-day practical training course, organized around a continuous mini-project that runs throughout the entire program. From the first day, you design the data model for a real business solution. Each day enriches this project: data modeling, application building, automation, and packaging. The training combines functional scoping workshops, guided Power Platform labs, and situational exercises that mirror the real-world conditions of a consulting mandate. It concludes with a timed PL-200 exam-style quiz with guided correction and a personalized revision plan.

1 Day 1: Setting the Foundation: Functional Methodology and Dataverse Modeling

Designing a Power Platform solution begins before opening any tool: you must understand the need, structure the requirements, and model the data. This day establishes the two pillars of the functional consultant's work: the scoping methodology and mastering Dataverse as the data foundation. It concludes with the first iteration of the continuous mini-project: defining the data model and user journeys.

Program:

  • Functional scoping method: discovery, requirements gathering, drafting user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Dataverse, fundamental concepts: tables, columns, data types, relationships, choice lists, and comparison with SharePoint lists.
  • Data modeling: translating a business model into a Dataverse structure (normalization, lookup relationships, choice lists).
  • Dataverse security, basics: security roles, business units, teams, and record sharing.
  • Continuous project - solution design: defining the data model and user journeys for the mini-project.

2 Day 2: Deepening Dataverse and Building a Model-Driven Application

Once the data model is in place, the second day enriches the solution with business rules, validation mechanisms, and an interface driven by the data model (model-driven app). Business Process Flows (BPFs) and functional integration options complete the picture. The continuous mini-project is stabilized by the end of the day.

Program:

  • Business rules and data validation: server-side logic without code.
  • Duplicate detection and record auditing (concepts).
  • Model-driven application: configuration of views, forms, navigation, and standard user experience.
  • Business Process Flows (BPF): stages, transition rules, and guided user experience.
  • Functional-level integrations: choosing connectors, limitations, and best practices.
  • Continuous project - iteration: stabilizing the data model and the model-driven app for the mini-project.

3 Day 3: Designing a Custom Interface with Power Apps Canvas

Canvas apps offer design freedom that model-driven apps do not: custom layouts, optimized mobile experiences, and granular display logic. This day covers the foundations of canvas apps, their connection to Dataverse, performance management, and sharing and security best practices. The continuous mini-project incorporates a complete user journey in canvas.

Program:

  • Canvas app foundations: screens, controls, formulas, navigation, and common design patterns.
  • Dataverse connection: input and lookup screens, data validation, and ergonomics.
  • List management and performance: delegation (concepts), search, filters, sorting, and pagination.
  • Sharing and app security: sharing permissions, Dataverse roles, and best practices.
  • Continuous project - canvas app: building a complete user journey on the mini-project's tables.

4 Day 4: Automating, Deploying, and Validating - Power Automate, ALM, and Mock Exam

The fourth day completes the full solution: automating processes with Power Automate, managing environments and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) strategy, packaging, and documentation for production, followed by a PL-200 exam simulation. This day transforms a set of components into a solution ready to be handed off to a client or deployed within the organization.

Program:

  • Cloud flows: triggers, actions, connectors, variables, expressions, conditions, branches, loops, and error handling.
  • Approval processes: configuration, notifications, escalation, and integration into the mini-project flow.
  • Environments and ALM: Development, Test, and Production environments; Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies; solution creation, versioning, exporting, and importing.
  • Capstone project: finalizing the mini-project, packaging, testing, writing a user guide, and production documentation.
  • Timed PL-200 exam-style quiz with guided correction, identification of areas to strengthen, and a two-to-three-week revision plan.
