Microsoft 365 MS-012: Administering and Governing Copilot and AI Agents

Data Governance, Purview and Power Platform, certification preparation

AB-900 is a one-day technical training course for IT professionals who administer or are preparing for the deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI agents within their organization.
Microsoft 365 Copilot accesses organizational data via Microsoft Graph while respecting existing permissions. An unprepared deployment can expose data that was previously not easily visible, particularly due to oversharing in SharePoint. This training addresses data governance as the essential starting point before activating Copilot.
You will cover five domains in one day: the fundamentals of the Microsoft 365 environment, data governance with Microsoft Purview (classification, MIP, retention, auditing), Copilot administration (licensing, pay-as-you-go billing, adoption), the lifecycle management of AI agents in Microsoft 365 and Power Platform, and a final practical exercise to validate the knowledge acquired.
The training prepares you for the AB-900 certification: Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals. It is a natural follow-up to the Microsoft 365 and Security learning path, after SC-900 or MS-102.

Is it for you ?

AB-900 is intended for IT professionals responsible for deploying, administering, or overseeing the use of Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI agents within their organization.
It is particularly suitable for:
• Microsoft 365 administrators in charge of managing the tenant and associated services (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams)
• Security and compliance team members involved in a Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment project
• Digital adoption and governance leads (technical profile) who are steering the implementation of AI tools in their organization
• IT professionals who wish to understand the implications of Copilot on data protection and organizational permissions before proceeding with deployment
• Anyone preparing for the AB-900 certification exam: Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals

Prerequisites

Microsoft 365 basics: users, groups, Teams, and SharePoint
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Entra (multi-factor authentication, conditional access) recommended
The MS-102 training is recommended for profiles that manage the tenant as a whole

What You'll Walk Away With

  • Understand how Microsoft 365 Copilot accesses your organization's data via Microsoft Graph and identify the risks associated with existing permissions.
  • Detect and correct oversharing in SharePoint and implement the necessary Purview governance controls before any Copilot deployment.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 Copilot on a day-to-day basis: licensing, pay-as-you-go billing, adoption dashboard, and prompt management.
  • Govern the AI agent lifecycle in Microsoft 365 and Power Platform: creation, approval, monitoring, and control.
  • Leave with an operational checklist covering the prerequisites and checkpoints for a structured Copilot rollout in your organization.

Training content

AB-900 alternates between structured presentations, guided demonstrations, and a guided practical lab in the Microsoft 365 administration environment. The day concludes with an operational checklist and an AB-900 exam-style quiz with guided correction.

1 Laying the foundation of the Microsoft 365 environment before deploying Copilot

The Microsoft 365 objects and admin centers to master in order to prepare for a structured Copilot deployment.

  • Microsoft 365 objects: users, groups, teams, sites, and SharePoint libraries
  • Admin centers relevant to Copilot: Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview
  • Access control: Zero Trust, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and conditional access — reading and comprehension level

2 Securing organizational data before deploying Copilot

How Copilot accesses organizational data, the risks this generates, and how to govern them with Microsoft Purview.

  • How Copilot accesses data via Microsoft Graph and the permissions model
  • Oversharing in SharePoint: detection through reports and corrective measures
  • Data governance with Microsoft Purview: sensitivity labels, classification, DLP, retention, eDiscovery, and auditing

3 Administering Microsoft 365 Copilot

Operational management of Copilot: licensing, billing, and adoption tracking.

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing assignment and management
  • Pay-as-you-go billing model and billing policies
  • Adoption analytics and tracking dashboard
  • Management of prompts and administrator-controllable features

4 Governing AI agents in Microsoft 365 and Power Platform

The full lifecycle of AI agents and the control mechanisms to implement.

  • Agent lifecycle: access, creation, approval, and decommissioning
  • Microsoft 365 and Power Platform administrative roles related to agents
  • Usage monitoring and key governance indicators
  • Control practices for a structured agent deployment

5 Integrating workshop and AB-900 exam simulation

A final practical scenario to consolidate the day's learning, followed by an individual review.

  • Minimum activation and governance checklist: prerequisites, checkpoints, and priority actions before deployment
  • Timed AB-900 exam-style quiz with guided correction and study pathways

Keep in Mind

Training focused on AB-900 exam preparation and mastery of Microsoft 365/Copilot governance, combining daily quizzes, a timed practice exam, and guided corrections. Participants work in a Microsoft 365 demo environment with access to administration tools (Entra, Purview, SharePoint, Teams, Exchange) and Copilot when available. The pedagogy follows a "risk → control → operation" approach, with practical workshops based on real-world scenarios. Deliverables include course materials, a Copilot preparation checklist, a minimum governance template, and an AB-900 practice quiz.
