IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and Azure Services: AZ-900 Certification Preparation
AZ-900 is a one-day introductory training course that provides an overview of Microsoft Azure and fundamental cloud computing concepts.
You will cover the essential pillars of the platform: service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), deployment models (public, private, hybrid cloud), Azure reference architecture (regions, subscriptions, resource groups), core compute, network, and storage services, as well as governance and cost management tools.
The training is aimed at diverse profiles: whether you are at the beginning of your Azure journey, a member of a cloud migration project team, or a technical decision-maker looking to understand the Microsoft platform before entrusting its administration to a specialized team, this day provides a common reference framework and a shared vocabulary.
It prepares you for the AZ-900 certification exam: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and serves as a natural entry point for more advanced training, such as AZ-104 (Azure Administration) or DP-900 (Azure Data).
Is it for you ?
AZ-900 is aimed at a wide range of profiles who need a functional understanding of cloud computing and Microsoft Azure, without necessarily being administrators or architects.
It is particularly suitable for:
• IT professionals who are new to Azure and wish to structure their knowledge of the platform before moving on to administration (AZ-104) or data (DP-900) training.
• Project team members involved in a cloud migration, including project managers, business analysts, or digital transformation advisors.
• IT managers and technical decision-makers who oversee Azure projects without handling daily administration.
• System, network, or storage administrators who want to apply their existing skills within the context of Azure cloud computing.
• Consultants and integrators working with clients migrating to Microsoft Azure.
• Anyone preparing for the AZ-900 certification exam: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.
Prerequisites
No mandatory prerequisites.
General familiarity with basic IT concepts (networking, servers, storage) facilitates the understanding of examples, but is not required to take the course.
What You'll Walk Away With
- ✓ Name and distinguish between cloud computing models: public, private, and hybrid cloud, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, shared responsibility, and financial implications (CapEx vs. OpEx).
- ✓ Describe Azure architecture and understand how resources are organized into regions, subscriptions, and resource groups.
- ✓ Identify Azure compute, network, and storage services and understand their respective roles within a cloud infrastructure.
- ✓ Understand governance and cost management tools: Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), policies, tags, Cost Management, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- ✓ Assess your readiness for the AZ-900 exam through the end-of-day quiz, guided correction, and targeted revision paths.
Training content
AZ-900 alternates between structured presentations, guided demonstrations in the Azure portal, and contextual mini-cases. There are no practical labs in this format: the objective is to understand and contextualize concepts, not yet to configure them. The day concludes with an AZ-900 exam-style quiz with guided correction.
1 Grasping the fundamentals of cloud computing
The concepts that structure cloud computing, its service models, and its financial implications.
- Public, private, and hybrid cloud: definitions and use cases
- Shared responsibility model
- IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS: differences and concrete examples
- CapEx and OpEx: how shifting to the cloud changes finances
2 Understanding Azure architecture
How Azure organizes and prioritizes resources across an organization.
- Geographic regions and availability zones
- Subscriptions: billing and governance units
- Resource groups and management groups
3 Identifying compute and network services
The services that form the foundation of any Azure infrastructure.
- Cloud compute: virtual machines (VMs), containers, and App Services
- Network: Virtual Network (VNet), VPN Gateway, and ExpressRoute
- IaaS/PaaS positioning based on the service
4 Discovering Azure storage services
The storage options available in Azure, their uses, and their performance tiers.
- Storage account: basic structure
- Types of storage: Blob, Files, Queues, and Tables
- Redundancy: local, zonal, and geographic options
- Access tiers: hot, cool, and archive
5 Governance, cost control, and validating learning
The tools for managing access, steering configurations, and monitoring consumption — followed by a summary of what was learned.
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
- Azure Policies and tags
- Azure Cost Management and budget alerts
- Support levels and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- AZ-900 exam-style quiz with guided correction
Keep in Mind
