Why settle for dull, predictable, or even tiresome e-learning modules?
This training is for anyone who wants to design short, captivating asynchronous e-learning solutions, whether integrated into hybrid programs or not.
Starting with a real training need from their organization, participants work in a workshop setting, analyzing the problem, identifying its causes, target audiences, and constraints. They then formulate a solid learning objective according to Bloom's and Krathwohl's taxonomies, and conceptualize a central theme grounded in the learners' professional reality to maximize engagement and the transfer of learning to their actual work environment.
The training guides them in choosing pedagogical techniques and tools, developing coherent instructional scenarios, considering the role and limitations of artificial intelligence, and producing detailed storyboard drafts ready for production with Rise or Storyline.
Participants leave with a structured method, concrete tools, and a validated storyboard for their own project.
Objectives
By the end of this learning event, you will be able to produce a storyboard necessary for the multimedia production of an e-learning module.
Is it for you ?
Instructional designers, educational technologists, head of an instructional design team.
Prerequisite
This is a workshop-style course during which you will work on creating an e-learning module. Before our session, you must therefore choose a topic (or a short excerpt) for which you would like to design an e-learning module lasting approximately 30 minutes or less. Two important notes. You must choose content you are comfortable with, since the expert will not be at your side. Simply having the existing instructional materials at your disposal will not be enough… you must be in control of the subject matter. After teams are assigned, you will work on one of the topics proposed by your team members. It is therefore possible that your topic will not be chosen, but you will still need to find arguments to convince your colleagues…

Module 1 – Define the training need and identify target audiences
By the end of this learning module, you will be able to specify training needs and characterize the target audiences.
Needs analysis, even a brief one, is essential if we want to propose a solution that addresses the problem to be solved. After clarifying the problem and its causes, we describe the target audiences and the constraints to be respected. If the event to be produced is in hybrid mode (synchronous and asynchronous), we attempt to clarify the role of the modules within the overall project.
Key knowledge involved:
- Problem and its causes
- Target audiences
- Constraints
Module 2 – Formulate a learning objective that meets the training need
By the end of this module, you will be able to formulate learning objectives according to Bloom.
The richness, power, and scope of learning objectives are not always understood. A learning objective describes the participant's state upon completion of their training and, in this sense, the objective is a response, a solution to the problem described earlier. What's the point of identifying the problem if the training doesn't provide a precise answer?
Key knowledge involved:
- Cognitive domain taxonomy (Bloom 2001)
- Affective domain taxonomy (Krathwohl)
- Writing the participants' project objective
- Explicit link between the objective and the preferred learning techniques

Module 3 – Design a central theme grounded in the learners' professional reality
By the end of this module, you will be able to create the central theme for your learning event.
A module organized around knowledge alone can be off-putting. Here, to captivate participants, we will imagine a metaphor, a story, a central theme that grounds the training in real life, making it authentic. For example, if we are addressing flight attendants, we might create scenarios set aboard a flight! Focusing on their reality facilitates the transfer of learning to real life.
Key knowledge involved:
- Central theme
- Scope of the central theme
- Pedagogical techniques
- Storytelling and selection of content for their modules
Module 4 – Develop an instructional scenario for online training
By the end of this module, you will be able to create instructional scenarios appropriate for the e-learning context.
Producing an e-learning module represents a considerable investment of time and energy. Changing your mind, going back, starting over leads to wasted resources, increases the risk of inconsistencies, and, significantly, causes a loss of motivation for the designer. Creating clear and fluid scenarios is a guarantee of success.
Key knowledge involved:
- Tool taxonomy
- Choice of tools
- Learning scenario (characteristics and quality criteria)
- Creation of their module scenario
- Role of AI and its limitations
- Functional mockups
Module 5 – Produce a detailed storyboard from the instructional scenario
By the end of this module, you will be able to design storyboards from instructional scenarios.
With the instructional scenarios in hand, we can now create storyboards that describe in great detail the organization of screen pages, the flow of interaction, narrated texts, instructions, exercises, positive or negative feedback, job aids, etc. We also create the flowchart to show the sequence of screen pages.
Key knowledge involved:
- Screen page organization
- Flowchart
- Media interactions
- Instructional feedback
- Functional mockups
- Storyboard production (RISE or STORYLINE)
Module 6 – Validate storyboards before production
By the end of this module, you will be able to produce a validated version of the storyboards.
Validation before production is an important step. It allows for the production of stable, consistent, and professional storyboards, which will reduce production costs and increase the quality of the final output.
Key knowledge involved:
- Internal validation
- External validation
- Validation techniques
