Course architecture
Covering a few essential notions about process improvement projects will ensure that the project gets off to a good start. One of the biggest risks of a process improvement project is investing a lot of effort in finding solutions that won't be implemented. To avoid this waste, we cover :
What a successful improvement project looks like, and how it leverages mapping.
What are the different types of improvement projects and when should mapping be used.
How to differentiate between valuable tasks and assess the improvement potential of a process to be improved:
- How to clarify a process improvement mandate.
- How to choose the right process to map.
- How to define the problem to be solved.
In the second part of the course, participants will learn everything they need to know to map the p rocess they wish to improve:
- What are the different levels of mapping (FIPEC, FFC...) and how to choose the right one for your needs?
- How to get an overview of existing processes and target the process to be improved using the FIPEC (Suppliers, Inputs, Steps, Outputs, Customers) or SIPOC Diagram.
- Tips and best practices for cross-functional flow mapping, the most widely used mapping standard for representing administrative processes (shapes, corridors, rules, etc.).
- How to apply these concepts to a simple, practical case study.
- How to choose the right version of the process to be mapped, and avoid falling into a maze of complexity.
Participants will become familiar with VISIO's basic mapping functionalities, including :
- How to use existing templates in VISIO to create and modify a cross-functional flow.
- How to lay out a map before printing it.
- How to quickly and automatically create a cross-functional flow map.
