Objectives

To provide the knowledge and skills required to improve the performance of project teams using advanced project management concepts and techniques.

Targeted audience

Engineers, project coordinators (PM1), project leaders (PM2), advisors, department heads, directors, buyers, accountants and finance specialists.

Prerequisite

Experience in project management (Course GE401).

Content

  • The importance of the project charter and the project plan
  • The Logical Framework method: clarifying short and long term project objectives, and supporting the project charter
  • Building the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): the importance of the WBS, factors to consider, challenges
  • Building schedules: time estimation techniques, including function point analysis (FPA)
  • Cost estimation techniques: parametric, detailed and analogical
  • The critical path method (CPM)
  • Schedule optimization techniques: compressing delays, accelerated development, determining required resources
  • Introduction to the Critical Chain Project Management method (CPPM)
  • Comparison of the critical chain and critical path methods
  • Advanced earned value management
  • Simulations, exercises and case studies
