Prerequisite

Familiarity with databases, with data warehouses (Course BD106) and with OLAP databases using MS SQL Server 2005/2008 (Course MS517).

  • Overview of MDX: Cubes, Measures, Dimensions, Hierarchies, Members, Sets
  • Designing MDX queries: the syntax of a SELECT query, the notion of axes, the SELECT/FROM/WHERE clause
  • Calculated members and named sets: overview of named sets and their use in PKI
  • Navigation and selection: selecting members in a hierarchy (PARENT, CHILDREN, DESCENDANTS, etc.)
